Div isions
Divisions are formed according to age. The 5 Divisions in the San Marcos Girls Softball League are PeeWee, 8U, 10U, 12U, and 14U.
PeeWee
This division is for girls who are 5 and 6 years old as of January 1, 2010. The philosophy of PeeWee or Tee Ball is introduce 5 & 6 year old girls the sport of softball in a fun and competitive environment. Basic softball skills include throwing, catching, batting off a tee, base running, defensive positioning, and hitting coached pitched balls. The concepts of good sportsmanship, cooperation, mutual respect, and dedication shall be stressed with strong emphasis on FUN!
8U
This division is for girls who are 7 and 8 years old as of January 1, 2010. The philosophy of this division is to promote softball skills, particularly pitching, fielding, and batting (live pitching) to create the "real game" experiences for the players. This is also when they are introduced to the competitive side of the game. Scores will be kept but there will NOT be a win/loss record. There will be a tournament at the end of the season for 1st & 2nd place winners.
Concepts of good sportsmanship, mutual respect, cooperation, dedication, and friendship will be stressed. This division will have an All-Star Team at the end of the season.
10U
This division is for girls who are 9 and 10 years old as of January 1, 2010.
12U
This division is for girls who are 11 and 12 years old as of January 1, 2010.
14U
This division is for girls who are 13 and 14 years old as of January 1, 2010.
The philosophy of the upper divisions is to continue to promote all softball skills. All eligible girls are encouraged to tryout for the All-Star teams at the beginning of May. Concepts of good sportsmanship, mutual respect, cooperation, dedication, and friendship continue to be stressed.
